We believe every child has the right to be raised in a family, to receive an education, and to grow in an environment where their family is equipped with the skills to care for them, despite the challenges of abject poverty.
Most children in our sponsorship program are being raised by a single parent or by an extended family member with our support for school fees until the family can support the child. We provide food and medical care when needed. Small business training followed by business set-ups are offered so the family can become self-sustainable.
Our social workers make regular checks on the children, the condition of their homes and schools, and offer to pray with the families.

IT ALL BEGINS WITH REFERRALS
Our process begins with referrals from government or community social workers identifying children in need, typically from single-mother households or caregivers such as aunts or grandmothers. Once referred, the child is enrolled, and an initial home visit is conducted to verify the needs.
Along with supporting school expenses, we observe and provide crisis support as needed along with counsel from our social workers. As the family stabilizes, we empower the caregiver to support their child long-term beyond the approximate two years of sponsorship support.
Our comprehensive approach ensures that children and families receive the immediate support needed as well as a way to live independent from outside support.

HERE'S HOW
EDUCATION
Referred children are often out of school because their caregiver(s) cannot provide school fees and need their child to work for help with basic survival needs. Once enrolled in our sponsorship program, the children’s school fees and necessities are provided through sponsors. Children are usually supported by Kulea Villages for a period of 2 years.

CRISIS SUPPORT
Upon enrollment, we conduct an initial home visit to verify the needs and to assess unsafe living conditions, such as inadequate shelter, overcrowded sleeping arrangements, and a lack of sanitation. We provide immediate essential support, such as food for the family, assistance with medical treatment, and addressing housing needs if homeless, including finding safe places to live. The immediate food support assures families of our serious intention to help and this begins to make them trust Kulea Villages. Addressing the areas of crisis first, helps bring stability to the child which improves school performance.
BUSINESS TRAINING & SET UP
During the time a child is enrolled, we train their caregiver to grow a small business to help with the cost of school fees, rent and food. We identify caregivers who are able to run a business and work together to identify a product that meets the needs of their community. We provide basic training on record keeping, savings, managing the business and we make an initial investment to set up the business. We provide hands-on support throughout the setup. Our continued guidance through business monitoring ensures caregivers have the confidence to succeed, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and provide their children with the support they need for the future.

IMPACT
Our Child Sponsorship program has prevented 95 children and youth
from dropping out of primary or secondary school
by paying their school fees and directly improving their family’s circumstances. We have enabled them to continue their education while staying with their family in a safe environment.
Join us in helping more children in Tanzania and Kenya attend school and remain with their family.
